One of the most striking and memorable musical moments of 2011 for me was watching The Kills sing “The Last Goodbye” for our live Morning Becomes Eclectic broadcast during SXSW.

It was so captivating, emotional and beautiful for a band known for being hard rockin’ and sexy. Allison Mosshart singing a delicate ballad really shows off her vocal chops in a new way. And now there is an official video directed by actress Samanta Morton, which shows Mosshart and Jamie Hince in a black and white photo booth.

The dynamic duo tell Nowness they usually don’t enjoy making music videos but this one was “shot in monochrome on crisp, silvery 35mm” and is simple yet poignant. They also reflect on their friendship and musical kinship in the piece, including memories of their first meetings.

Check it out here as well as the version of the song recorded for KCRW. (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this…a lot).
