Old man and the seethe: Lakers losing, Kobe stewing

Kobe Bryant appears to have fully recovered from injuries that sidelined him most of the last two seasons. That’s the good news.

The bad news is the Lakers are, well, bad. Historically bad.

They lost again last night, falling to the Golden State Warriors 136-115 at Staples Center. They are now 1-9: That’s the worst 10-game start in franchise history. We’re talking back to Minneapolis days.

The 36-year-old Bryant scored 44 points in the loss, even though he sat out the entire fourth quarter because the Lakers were so far behind.second only to Lebron James in the NBA. It’s a remarkable comeback for a 19-year veteran coming off of knee and heel injuries. But Bryant, aside, the Lakers cupboard is mostly bare. Their most promising newcomer – rookie Julius Randle – is out for the season with a busted leg.

It’s only two weeks into the season, but it’s already apparent that the Lakers are headed for NBA lottery land. The whole mess has left Bryant even grumpier than usual.
