Jason started today’s session with Other Lives by mentioning that they were here in studio almost exactly two years ago, to which frontman Jesse Tabish replied they’d been “hibernating” ever since. He wasn’t kidding – they turned their rehearsal space into a studio to create “Tamer Animals.”

Many, including us, believe Other Lives’ last album was criminally overlooked and if the reactions to today’s performance are any indication, I think they will be shining in the spotlight soon enough.

Their orchestral pop is so dynamic and you can tell a lot of effort went into it, but it sounds effortless. It floats, despite layers and layers of sound.

MBE producer Ariana Morgenstern commented that you have to be a real musician to be in this band – with one member switching from xylophone to keys to horns. The sole female member played antlers with bells on them and castanets, among many other things.

If I actually had any musical talent, this is the type of band I would want to be in!

Listen to their lush melodies and want a band that truly deserves a big audience.

(and if there are still tickets available, go see them Saturday night at the Satellite!)

p.s. Jesse said he appreciated Jason’s track leading into the performance – Steely Dan’s “Peg,” saying they could walk on stage to that every night.
