It’s been a minute since we caught up with Las Cafeteras, mainly because they toured relentlessly following the release of their 2017 sophomore album Tastes like L.A. Well, this weekend they make their return to Los Angeles in a MONUMENTAL way!

Friday, August 2ndrd & Saturday, August 3, Las Cafeteras will perform as support for The Gypsy Kings, for 2 memorable shows at the Hollywood Bowl!

Performing at such an iconic venue for the first time in their career is obviously a giant marker, but for band member Hector Flores, performing at the Hollywood bowl carries with it a weight of validation for a generational struggle. “When my mother first came to the United States as a teenager, she was un-documented … but she was able to get a job at the Hollywood Bowl as an usher. Now to watch her son perform on the stage where she had once just dreamed of just attending a show is truly an honor.”

Taking great advantage of this huge billing, the vibrant 6-piece will also release an EP this Friday, which features covers that remind them of growing up in LA! Sy-ner-GY!

Today, we premiere the lead single from this forthcoming release. It’s a live cover of the 1960’s beyond classic by Rosie & The Originals "Angel Baby," with production assistance by Wil-Dog of Ozomatli fame and Damon Vonn.

“Angel Baby” is such an iconic EastLos oldie that holds a deep significance for many Angelenos. Vocalist and lead jarana player Denise Carlos says that the song is incredibly inspirational during these current times. “This song was written by a young woman (Rosie” Méndez Hamlin) of Mexican descent in the ‘60s in L.A. when racism and segregation ran rampant. Rosie and the Originals was a racially mixed California band with a female lead. That is STILL uncommon. I’m super inspired to be following in her footsteps and continuing the legacy of interrupting the status quo through music and with love.”

Check out the track and see them at the Bowl this weekend!
