Pete Yorn Charms the Crowd at Apogee Studios

KCRW has been such a fan of singer/songwriter Pete Yorn’s music that he feels like family. Since his 2001 debut, Musicforthemorningafter, through the advance tracks we’ve heard from his new album, ArrangingTime, we’ve always been excited to share his melodious brand of indie-rock with our listeners. So it made perfect sense to invite Pete to perform an intimate set for a small group of fans, friends and, yes, family at Apogee Studios on the eve of the official release of his new record. Especially when you consider that it has been six years since his last solo album, a long enough period of time for him to have gotten married, become a father & to have emerged ever-so-slightly older and wiser. But that proved no hindrance to the audience’s rapturous appreciation for his songs, whether they were brand new tracks like “Halifax,” or old favorites such as “Strange Condition.” He was clearly loved, and the crowd’s response was just as genuine as Pete is himself.

After the show, Pete quietly jumped into the front seat of his manager’s car, ready for the quick trip back to his Santa Monica home where his six-month-old was waiting. Family life surely suits him, but there is no doubt his KCRW family will be there for him as well! And be sure to be tuned in to Morning Becomes Eclectic on Friday, March 11, the day Pete’s new album is released, as we will broadcast the session in the final hour of the show.
