With limited mobility and a small fixed income, life for 70-year-old Patty Balbaneda can be precarious.

As she’s grown older, she’s also confronted bouts of depression and a sense of isolation. She’s lost a best friend and had days when simply leaving the house feels overwhelming.

But the local senior center has given her a renewed sense of community, and purpose.
