Birth control available at Roosevelt High

The good news? The teen birth rate in America has fallen dramatically in recent years, reaching its lowest level since the early 1970s. The bad news? In many communities, teen pregnancy numbers still remain stubbornly high. One of those communities is East L.A.’s Boyle Heights neighborhood, where so many students got pregnant that Roosevelt High School invited Planned Parenthood to fund and operate a family planning clinic at the school. It’s the only on-campus Planned Parenthood clinic in the LAUSD.

Sue Dunlap, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles says, “What we do in Roosevelt is make sure that they have the support and resources that they need to cut down their teen pregnancy rate, whether that means access to condoms, access to information, access to our medical director.” I recently looked into the clinic for National Public Radio. Listen to that piece here.
