Yesterday, Dam-Funk tweeted about the death of J-1, who apparently passed away in an accident in Sweden. KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez writes a tribute to the local musican:

J-1 is best known to the world as being part of Dam-Funk’s synth funkadelic trio Master Blazter. But to Los Angeles he was known as an all around great guy who loved to play records throughout the club scene.

He was not only my label mate on the Recordbreakin label, but someone who would show me love during my dj sets.

J-1 was always quiet and humble. But when on stage his energy was intense. He was part Incredible Hulk, part Bernard Purdie and part NWA on the drum kit.

He will be spirit, talent, smile and pounding of the drum kit will be greatly missed.
