Song Premiere: Forró In The Dark – Você Não É Insubstituível

The New York-based (and Brazilian expats), Forró in the Dark, are set to release their first album in over 8 years.

The band combines driving dance rhythms of forró from Northeastern Brazil with rock, jazz, psychedelia, and folk; and it sounds like a return to form with their forthcoming album, Sandcastle (out April 21).

Forró music is often played by a trio or small ensemble and characteristically has a rhythmic triangle and zabumba driving the pace of the song along with an accordion. But they also intertwine synth bass, drums, tape delay and other sound effects accentuated by lyrics of rural life’s hardships.

Today we bring you an exclusive premiere off of Sandcastle entitled, Você Não É Insubstituível which translates to “You Are Not Irreplaceable.”

It’s a catchy tune with a winding flute as the lead melody that takes us through assertive lyrics of someone facing impending heartbreak…from what I can sort of make out.

Although Brasil is in the middle of South America, new music from that region many times falls by the wayside since our focus on Pan Caliente is often musica purely in Spanish.

Refreshing to hear new music in Portuguese, via Brazil, via New York. And we’ll definitely keep an ear on this region.
