From KCRW volunteer Sierra Drucker —

Pro surfer Rob Machado is heading to the Troubadour this Thursday, April 14 for a rare performance and screening of his latest film, Melali -The Drifter Sessions. On this short-run tour, Machado will be performing a live score to the film alongside his Melali Sessions Band. The film is a throwback to the rootsy surf flicks of the 70s, using unreleased footage from his last film, The Drifter, to celebrate the art and beauty that is the wave-riding experience.

Now if I could only figure out who the surprise guests will be…

The Troubadour’s newsletter reads: Our Rob Machado (4/14) show has added some VERY special guests, that we cannot announce. But what I will tell you, is that the pair share the same birthday (oddly enough) and are EXACTLY 10 years apart. Creepy, no? Both surfing buddies of Rob’s…one of them has played a secret show here or two. Basically, you don’t want to miss this one

Pro-surfer, filmmaker, musician – what can’t this guy do? Last September, he added DJ to that list of accomplishments when he stepped into the studios for a Guest DJ Project session with KCRW’s very own surfer, Liza Richardson.

Of course, his selections are impeccable and full of soul, just like his surfing.

Check out his DJ set to hear more about Melali as well as the stellar opening song from the film.
