Oscar nominations are out. There were some surprises, and some not-so-surprising developments from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as they released their list of those up for awards this year. That ceremony coming up on Sunday, February 24th.

Stephen Galloway from The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Steve Chiotakis with his thoughts on the nominees. The two discussed that, among several surprises this morning, the Oscar ceremony’s host, Seth MacFarlane, also got up early this morning to announce the nominations, something that hadn’t happened before.

There were also some differences this awards season between the British BAFTAs, the Golden Globes, and the Oscars. And perhaps the biggest buzz is around Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow and Tom Hooper failing to get “best director” nods for their respective movies: Affleck for “Argo,” Bigelow for “Zero Dark Thirty” and Hooper for “Les Misérables.”
