The online campaign to catch a serial killer

On Tuesday’s “Which Way LA?” we heard from Internet sleuth and writer Michelle McNamara who has become obsessed with trying to solve the cold case of a serial criminal she’s nicknamed the Golden State Killer. He claimed 60 victims of rape and murder from Sacramento to Orange County between 1976 and 1986. Detectives have had little success and an online community of true crime buffs have yet to crack the case.

But this morning, McNamara and Los Angeles Magazine launched an unprecedented online campaign to promote new evidence (hi-res photos of the killer’s handwriting, a hand-drawn map he left at a crime scene, and composite sketches) with the hope that the more people who see the details, someone somewhere in California will come forward.
