Thurston and Dana by Bil Zelman

Yesterday was a special day at KCRW.

Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore was in studio playing songs from his excellent solo album “Demolished Thoughts” (with a harpist, violinist and more) on Morning Becomes Eclectic and authorDana Spiotta was down the hall waiting to do an interview with our resident Bookworm Michael Silverblatt.

Thurston had actually written a blurb praising her new book, “Stone Arabia”, but this was the first time they had ever met! He recognized her and they went on to have a lovely conversation – two artists sharing a moment here in our basement. When things like that happen, I have to step back and appreciate how great this place is.

You can hear Dana on Bookworm on August 11 (Thurston says her book “is a rock and roll novel like no other”) and check out Thurston’s set right here.

He also treated us to some poetry between songs, including the one below

(OH and Jason even talked to Thurston about his famous interview with Beck on MTV back in the 90’s. Beck produced “Demolished Thoughts”. )
