Track Premiere: Diego Garcia – “Don’t Go”

It was while Diego Garcia fronted Elefant (in 2003) that I first became aware of his sweet, melodic voice. It fit so well amongst the 80’s inspired, British indie rock on their debut. Then when they returned in 2006 with their harder, indie-disco rock sound, his voice seemed to adapt and fit perfectly there as well. It was a sad day when the band split up in 2010.

Only a year later, Diego Garcia would embark on his solo debut. Creating an album that could have very well been an homage of covers to the troubadours of the 70’s, but was surprisingly all original music. It was masterfully crafted and sonically nostalgic. At the heart of his compositions were his vocals, which given his indie rock past, I did not expect to be so exposed.

“Laura,” was well received and launched the new phase of Diego’s musical career; It also renewed me as a fan.

With two solid, solo albums under his belt, Garcia has announced a forthcoming release for a 3^rd, of which we are premiering the first single here today.

“Don’t Go” takes his signature sound and gives it a more palatable melody and instrumentation. It’s still a nod to artists like Sandro, Leonard Cohen, and Harry Nilsson but does well to update the sound a bit. It is a catchy tune, I can’t wait to hear the full album.
