Today we premiere a new track from singer/songwriter Meiko’s forthcoming album Playing Favorites. The album is full of reworked and reimagined classics; including a haunting, acoustic version of dance floor staple “Super Freak.”

When asking Meiko about why she picked this Rick James favorite she said, “The lyrics of this song have always made me giggle. I thought it would be fun to sing from a girl’s perspective, so I started covering it when I was playing shows at the Hotel Cafe in LA. People loved it, and have always been disappointed that there wasn’t a recording.”

Meiko also takes on “Zombie” originally sung by the late Dolores O’Riordan of the Cranberries, plus other artists such as Duran Duran, and Erykah Badu. The full collection drops May 25 via Chesky Records.
