By José Galván • • 1 min readThe Southern California sextet QUITAPENAS (whose name means “to remove worries/shame”) has had a whirlwind year and a half. Dating back to their performance at Coachella in 2017, all the way up to the recent Tropicália in Long Beach. They’ve toured their tropical Afro-Latin grooves non-stop and helped spread their mission of making people dance without a worry or care in the world.
Today we bring you their latest release, which will be released as a 45 this week, entitled, Tranquilidad
The song is anything but tranquil. It features a fierce guitar riff, and a melody on the keys that is – as guitarist and vocalist Daniel Gomez put it – “inspired by 1970’s and 1980’s Funana and Coladeira music from Cabo Verde and from the Afro-Puerto Rican rhythm known as Bomba.”
The lyrics bring with them a strong reflection of “how we as humans, continue to damage and deplete our natural resources. It expresses our shame and asks Mother Nature for forgiveness and patience as we hope to all one day realize that tranquility and happiness does not come from exploitation but from loving and taking care of each other and our environment.”
The single will be out on all digital platforms as well as physical vinyl put out by Names You Can Trust.
