Tragedy in Paris

Charlie Hebdo and the stakes for Free Speech, oil prices plunge and the revolt at Harvard.

  • Share
By Matt Miller • Jan 9, 2015 • 29m Listen

Tragic events in Paris leave 17 journalists, civilians and police officers dead at a satirical newspaper and in a hostage situation. Rich Lowry calls it a teaching moment about the importance of free speech and criticizes news organizations who have not run the satirical images, calling it "an extraordinary act of cowardice." Bob Scheer says political satirists have been some of the gutsiest in human history and disagrees with a New York Times column by David Brooks. Megan McArdle says it's been a grim year for free speech, especially on campuses. As oil prices fall, Scheer says there is a false logic in approving the Keystone Pipeline, which needs high oil prices to pay for itself. Harvard professors revolt against their new health insurance plan.

Matt Miller moderates from the Center. On the Left is Robert Scheer (TruthDig.com). Rich Lowry (National Review) is on the Right. Megan McArdle (Bloomberg View) is our special guest.
