Hi, this is Gemma Dempsey and welcome to another edition of The Global Gig Guide. This week we are proud to be giving tickets away to The End of the Road Festival in the UK as well as a mention about Bumbershoot in Seattle.
The End of The Road Festival. This event was held for the first time just last year, and came to fruition thanks to the hard work of founders Simon and Sofia, both avid music fans, both inspired by the style of The Green Man Festival and neither with any experience of producing a music festival. With bags of passion and determination they staged a very successful End of The Road festiva in 2006 , receiving rave reviews from both the punters and the press and were voted the Best New Festival by the UK Festival Awards. The festival will be held this year September 14th -16th and may well sell out as it only has a 5,000 capacity; being an intimate event it allows bands to play longer than many other festivals; it also avoids advertising signage so that the event is all about enjoying the gorgeous location of Larmer Tree Gardens in the lush English countryside while listening to great music. Camping facilities are available from Tangerine Fields for a fee, so you can leave your moldy tent at home and opt for the boutique camping experience instead. There will also be tasty organic food and drink so all your senses can be satiated!
The End of the Road Festival is so called as it represents the drawing to a close of the music event season in the UK and looking at the line up I can’t imagine a better way to say Ta Ta til next year – it features Archie Bronson Outfit, Sunny Day Sets Fire, Yo La Tengo, Midlake, Lambchop, My Brightest Diamond, Super Furry Animals & Jim White. In addition to the fab line up, there is also a comedy stage , film screenings, open mic sessions, workshops, and for the mums and dads amongst you, a dedicated family area so the kids can have a great time too!
