David Bowie’s birthday this week, I wanted to share this rendition of “

Where Are We Now”, the first single from his most recent album “

    The Next Day”.

The lush ballad is beautifully simple and spare in the hands of Conor O’Brien, known as Villagers. The Irish singer performed it during his 2013 appearance on KCRW and it’s always stuck with me.

He’s been shortlisted for the Mercury Prize twice and when you hear his voice, you’ll understand why. It cracks with emotion at the end of the song, just driving it home.

David Bowie released the song on his birthday two years ago, his first single in 10 years. Hoping we hear more soon.
