All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck Pcatalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Unseasonably warm weather this past week. Seems like over the past month, it’s pretty much a toss up on whether you’ll need a hoodie or a tank top, but I don’t hear anyone complaining.

Great finds at the post office this week.

Smith Westerns “Dye It Blonde” – Lots of hype and great reviews on this one. Looking forward to finally checking it out.

Lia Ices “Grown Unknown” – Gorgeous orchestral leaning music. There is an incredible track with guest vocals from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver.

Sidi Toure “Sahel Folk” – A musician from Mali that I’ve never heard of is always cause to celebrate. This is a beautiful record. Kind of sounds like a member of Tinariwen jamming some demos in a nice studio.

Honorable mentions include two Jayhawks reissues, new Deerhoof (which, thanks to Henry Rollins, I’ve already heard) and a digital version of the upcoming EP by Slang Chickens, one of my favorite LA bands.

They’ve got a residency at The Echo every Monday next month. Think my wife will mind going out to see them for Valentine’s Day? You’re right, probably best not to ask.

Let’s do it again next week.

Best,

Chuck P.
