All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck Pcatalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

What gorgeous weather the past few days. Shorts & t-shirts in March. Wonderful.

A wonderful day at the post office today, too, because…

1) LA Font & Buried Beds LP’s – Oh my stars… as a thank you for playing their music, the bands sent over LP versions of their albums. I’m all soft and gooey inside because of it. Buried Beds may end up being a contender for Top Ten of 2011… so far. Acoustic piano driven pop so sticky sweet my teeth hurt after listening to their solid debut, Tremble The Sails. They will be in good company with…

2) Brave Irene – I’ve had the digital version of this album for a while now, but I’m still elated to get a physical copy. They are the strongest entry in my possible top ten of the year… so far. Rose Melberg (from Tiger Trap & The Softies) is back with some of the most potent songs she’s written so far. Maybe Slumberland will thank me by sending a vinyl version? Pretty please?

3) Mountain Goats “All Eternals Deck” – Any day a new MG LP shows up is a day to celebrate. One of my favorite bands since 1995. No one writes lyrics the way John Darnielle can. Baseball & philosophy never sounded so good together. Out soon on Merge Records.

Honorable mentions include a well designed package from Hello Echo, new EP from Computer Magic & a digital single from the new Meat Puppets album, Lollipop.

I’m excited to play most of this and more tonight at 12a.

Cheers!

Chuck P.
