All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck Pcatalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Wowsers. What a weird week, weather wise. From the 90s to, supposedly, the 50s on Friday. Hey, I like the cold, but my head is spinning… which takes us to today’s post office haul.

1) Thank You & Postcard vinyl – Kick ass new 7″ from The Entrance Band, I’m guessing as a thank you (No, thank you!) for playing the A-side and an interesting postcard from Stones Throw featuring the artist Vex… I want to play it, but I’m sure it will get destroyed as all the flexi discs I got back in the 80s — a highlight when buying magazines, but a bummer when they shredded after a few plays. I may cheat and ask the label for an mp3 so I can save this guy. Super cool idea, tho!

2) EMA & Love Inks – Two artists who have released two of my favorite recent singles now have full album releases. Exciting! Singles are great, but it’s the full lengths where you get a good sense of what the artists are doing. I’ll be soaking these up over the next week to see what else I can play from them.

3) Klang – Other Doors – New music from Klang! No, the jazz Klang. No, the OTHER jazz Klang. No less then 4 Klangs from my last count. At any rate, most of them are worth your time. James Falzone has a great troupe of musicians this time out, with contributions from two of my favorites, Jeb Bishop and Fred Lonberg-Holm. This isn’t your father’s jazz… a little more challenging and dissonant at times, but mind expanding and definitely worth your time.

Honorable mentions include a jaw dropping OMG package from Tompkins Square (I’ll be playing this stuff for weeks!), the first studio album in 25 years from Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou, and ballsy rock records from the Meat Puppets and White Mystery.

A lot to digest. Which is the way I like it!

More tonight at 12a.

Best,

Chuck P.
