All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck P catalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Is everyone sick? Seems that way. Ra Ra Riot a show at The El Rey this week. Sickness. Bummer. At least Yellow Ostrich rescheduled for Silverlake Lounge. I missed two shows recently because I’m getting over a cold… tho, I think the kid and I are just passing it back and forth to each other at this point. Sure, hanging out in your PJs all day and catching up on TV is fun for a while, but they don’t call it cabin fever for nothing.

I got a great show in last week when I saw Wild Flag at the Troubadour. It was stunning. Here’s a picture… and a video of them performing Televisions See No Evil.

Los Campesinos “Hello Sadness” – New CD from this 7-piece from Wales. A healthy sense of humor and sharp pop songs are what I remember from their last few albums, so guessing par for the course here, but I’ve yet to listen.

Wooden Wand & The Briarwood Virgins “Briarwood” – Always a reason to celebrate when something from

Wooden Wand shows up in the mail, and luckily, it’s often as James Toth is very prolific. Another name change (it’s been everything from

    Wooden Wand to

Wooden Wand & The Sky High Band and

Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice) and a slightly more upbeat sound, especially after last years bleak but amazing album

    Death Seat

. Only had a cursory listen so far, so eager to dive in further.

VINYL – Two pieces this week. A 12″ from Michael Perkins called MR 666 (fun!) and a new album from Black Box Recorder. I love vinyl. There are a couple of 7″s from Jack White’s Third Man Records here too… but I’ll save them for next week.

Olivia Broadfield and another from LA’s

Cinderella Motel. It’s not the music that’s curious (well, it might be… haven’t listened yet) it’s the fact that the cover of Broadfields CD and the picture included on the one sheet bio from Cinderella Motel show women wearing military style hats. Okay, maybe it’s just me that finds it curious… but what are the odds?

Honorable mentions include Beaten By Them, Little Comets & Canyons. Digital coolness from Swahili Blonde and Yelle.

Oh yeah, if you want to send some music for this here post, send to Chuck P. c/o KCRW at Santa Monica College or the po box info below.

    Best,

    Chuck P.
