All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck Pcatalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Another glorious week of perfect SoCal weather. It actually rained late last week and it signaled the end of a really mild summer, compared to last year’s 113 downtown record temp. Then again, that was in late September, so we may yet see a very hot couple of days before the cold comes.

Speaking of cold, I’m headed to London next week. My first time. Let me know if you have any suggestions, musical or otherwise. I’ve been madly doing research of all the things I should be taking pictures of, so I’m short on time… let’s do a quickie post

office post!

1) Correatown vinyl! – New LP and 10″ from LA’s own Correatown. Lots of play for this artist on KCRW so you probably are already familiar with her soothing voice. Looking forward to hearing this one!

2) Supreme Dicks “Breathing & Not Breathing” – sampler of the massive 4xCD box set from another one of my have 90s bands. Like Sonic Youth covering Pavement covering The Yardbirds… on acid. Super good, is what I’m trying to say… I’ll probably have to beg borrow and steal

to get the 4xCD box set.

3) Darius Jones Trio “Big Gurl” – Saxophone giant from NYC. Another quality release from Aum Fidelity. NYC free skronk is some of the best in the world, and this guy is at the center. My kid loves to scat along with this CD when I play it. Seriously… she may only be 2, but she can scat with the best of ’em.

Honorable mentions include new Gauntlet Hair, Mike & The Censations and a Talvin Singh collaboration with Niladri Kumar. Digital highlight is a new track from electro pop-a-licious indie band Work Drugs.

I heard I need a thick coat from London… and a scarf. Where the hell do I buy a scarf in LA??

Have a great week!

Chuck P.
