All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck Pcatalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Amazing week of mellow June-gloomy weather. It’s definitely getting warmer though, and the next couple of weeks will see the sun emerge from it’s cloudy slumber. I would rather not see 117 degree temps again this year (all of my plants died!), but I’m looking forward to a nice toasty summer. A relatively light week at the post office, but some goodies here for sure.

1) Sebadoh “Bakesale” – Killer double disc reissue of one of my favorite discs from the 90’s (somebody get that baby to Jenny Craig!). Sub Pop

really knows how to do the reissue projects. Always deluxe packaging and bonus tracks galore. It also helps that they’ve released some outstanding music over their 20+ years. With the other Sub Pop releases I played last night, the Handsome Furs write up I just did for their album preview on KCRW and now this… if Sub Pop were a guy, there’d be a serious bromance going on. Love you, dude.

2) Liturgy “Aesthethica” – New black metal from Hunter Hunt-Hendrix and his band. Interesting story with this guy. After their first album, he wrote THE book on black metal (okay, A book on black metal called Transcendental Black Metal) and it got the black metal scene questioning his authority. According to some reviews and letters to Hunter that I have read, it might have to do with a dismissal of what came before him, but I have not read the book yet, so I cannot say for sure what the uproar is about. At any rate, the music is definitely different and interesting, but the vocals are all black metal. Might have to pass this one off to Henry Rollins. I think he’d dig it, too.

3) Motown’s Mowest Story 1971-1973 – You had me at Motown. I’m sure this will be exactly as amazing as it sounds. Light In The Attic also do excellent reissues. Full artwork, heavy vinyl and great liner notes. Tracks from Frankie Valli, Odyssey, The Commodores and more. Oh yes… chomping at the bit to get into this one.

Honorable mentions include new cds from F*cked Up (can I say that in a post?), Data Romance (holy heck, they’re good) and House Of Wolves (from LA) and a new Wild Flag track that will be on their new album due out next month. Yay! Love the Wild Flag…

Cheers,

Chuck P.
