Jason Bentley must be in a good mood this morning because nothing indicates a good mood like a cheerful whistling song — and he played two in a row on Morning Becomes Eclectic! “Young Folks ” by Peter Bjorn and John, probably one of the only songs to launch a band to overnight success because of its ultra-catchy whistling hook, and the sultry sounds of the Brazilian Girls on “St. Petersburg“.

My personal favorite, however, has to be The Pixies’ “La La Love You.” There was a time when I put that song on every single mix I made for someone. It’s just pure joy — few words, tons of fun. I found this great live version. Shake your butt!

Also, I have to mention Otis Redding’s (“Sittin’ on) The Dock of the Bay”. Let Otis take you away to a happy place with his amazing vocals. Never get sick of hearing this one.

Another favorite that includes no actual whistling (though lots of horns and an accordion): They Might be Giants’ “Whistling in the Dark” The absurdity of their music is what makes it great. Weird and wonderful.

What are your favorites? I’d love to know!
