Since its founding in NYC back in 1964, Fania Records has been the premiere label for the Afro-Cuban sound, featuring many of the legendary figures of the Latin scene, including Celia Cruz, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Ray Baretto and many other greats. Over the past decade, they have been reissuing many of their classic recordings, as well as featuring newly commissioned remixes to introduce the Fania vibe for a new generation of music fans.

Their latest release, Calentura: Global Bassment, is a celebration of the global bass scene, compiled by the local DJ collective Calentura, who put on monthly events in Los Angeles to celebrate this popular party sound. The record features gems from the Fania catalog remixed by the likes of Jillionaire of Major Lazer fame, Brazilian duo Tropkillaz, and longtime KCRW favorites Bomba Estereo, whose remix of the Willie Colon/Hector Lavoe jam, “Pa Colombia” you can sample & download below:

The full record is released this Friday, March 11, and to mark the occasion Calentura are putting on a record release party at the El Rey Theatre on Saturday, March 12, featuring the aforementioned Tropkillaz, Peruvian DJ duo Dengue, Dengue, Dengue!, and US-based, Panamanian hip-hop/dancehall group Los Rakas. Prepare to have some serious bass dropped on ya!
