Nate Clark is KCRW’S January Volunteer of the Month

Written by

Meet Nate Clark.  He comes in every Thursday to go into the trenches of our publicity department and help us fight the good fight.  He is also the voice you frequently hear touting who our sponsors are.  Here’s a little more about him:

Where did you grow up and are you an only child?
I grew up mostly in Winter Park, FL and I have 1 younger brother.  He owns a bar in Gainesville, FL called The Bank.

What is your current occupation?
I’m an actor and I also own a small design and production company.  I do a lot of voice over work, some improv/sketch comedy around town, and I’m currently pitching two pilots.

What is your fantasy occupation?
Writing/producing/starring in an ensemble sketch tv show, like Carol Burnett or the Kids in the Hall.

When did you first discover KCRW?
I was visiting Los Angeles for a few months to train for the Paris marathon and I started listening to MBE during my morning run… I hope that doesn’t sound pretentious.  Does that sound pretentious?  Yes, I run marathons in foreign places.  I’m cool like that.

How did you find your way to our station for volunteering?
I was in between LA and New York and looking for a volunteer job on the west coast.  In NYC I was already volunteering for New York Cares (http://www.newyorkcares.org/) and I knew I wanted something in LA that was different.  I really enjoy the music and the talk on KCRW, so I decided that volunteering here would be a cool opportunity to contribute.

What’s your current volunteer position and how long have you been at it?
I assist Rachel Reynolds in the music publicity department.  Different departments send us info about upcoming shows, MBE performances, Today’s Top Tune, Guest DJ, etc, and I put it all into a newsletter that goes out to the press every week.  While I’m at the station, I also record a few of the “supported by” promos that play on the air every day.

Favorite volunteer moment?
Wow.  I’ve been fortunate enough to work at some pretty cool events, like Sounds Eclectic Evening, tons of KCRW Presents shows and more.  But tops would probably be seeing Patty Griffin at the Hotel Cafe with a super, super small audience.  Good times.

If you could get on the mic and say one sentence on the air, what would it be?
It’d probably sound like “support for KCRW comes from…”

What song have you hit repeat on lately?
The Ends, by The Naked and Famous.  Special thanks goes out to Rachel for introducing me to that band.

Favorite book, movie?
Book:  No Turn Unstoned   Movie: Swingers

Favorite thing to do outside the station (hobbies, recreation, etc.)?
I see a lot of movies.  A whole lot of movies.

What does KCRW mean to you?

KCRW is the coolest, smartest, greatest radio station on the planet.  And it’s a home away from home.

For us, Nate is truly indispensable.  I don’t think any of us know how to do what he does anymore!  Not to mention we love to hear his youthful voice over our airwaves.  It matches his great, friendly personality.

Thanks Nate!
