Víctor Terán and David Shook discuss the music of Isthmus Zapotec and poetry translated forLike A New Sun. Moving to Mexico City before learning Spanish, Terán began writing poetry as a dialogue with himself, in the 4,500 year-old language he knew. Terán writes with surrealism, juxtapositions of strangeness, sensual undertones, and ghosts of the past. His poetry preserves a culture and gives indigenous language a new life.
