1. Shelter: Rethinking How We Live in Los Angeles

Curated by Sam Lubell and Danielle Rago, the exhibit explores “how new forms of shelter can respond to changes both in the cultural fabric and the physical landscape of the city, better addressing its pressing issues.” It looks at proposals (both built and speculative) from architectural firms MAD Architects, Michael Maltzan Architects, Bestor Architecture, OMA, LA Más, Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, PAR, wHY Architecture and more. 2. Ocean Acidification at the Hammer

As part of Hammer Museum’s ongoing series on water, The Next Wave, they are hosting a discussion this week on the topic of Ocean Acidification featuring Dr. Richard Feely, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Senior Fellow at the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in Seattle. He’ll discuss the effects of an acidifying ocean and also we what can do to mitigate its effects.

When: Tuesday August 25, 2015 7:30 PM

Tickets: Free. But note: tickets are required and available at the Box Office one hour before the program. General admission tickets are available one per person on a first come, first served basis following member ticketing. Early arrival is recommended.

3. Terrarium Workshop 

Make your own drought-tolerant plant art at the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach this Friday.  Then on Saturday, you can also head to the museum for the latest event in their summer music series: Cubana Be, Cubana Bop, The Return Of Bebop: The Music Of Dizzy Gillespie And Chano Pozo.

4. Zine Workshop with Yumi Sakugawa

The Pasadena Museum of California Art will host a workshop with zine artist Yumi Sakugawa on “mindfulness, meditation, and comics.”

When: Saturday August 29, 2015

5. Station to Station 

Head to Nuart Theatre to see Station to Station, a film that its website describes as “a high speed road trip through modern creativity.” The film consists of 62 one-minute films centered on experiences on a train and the film features the artists Cat Power, Ed Ruscha, Beck and others.
