Journey to the Wigwam Motel

Recently a friend had his birthday party at the Wigwam Motel in San Bernadino.

Once I Googled it and saw what it looked like I help me write an essay just had to go.

Lady luck was on my side as some digging into my options to get out there revealed the fact that the motel lay not too far from the Rialto Metrolink station. An hour and a half’s journey from downtown Los Angeles and I was there!

This Wigwam motel was the last of seven constructed, of which only three remain.

It’s located on historic Route 66 with the individual teepees arranged round a larger central teepee which serves as the office and lobby. Its in amazing condition and well worth the trip out to San Bernadino to see it. (You can get more information about it here.)

Also since I’d never been out there the journey itself was quite an experience and also something I would highly recommend…

On the Metrolink platform heading to San Bernadino.

Pigeons on the train on the opposite track.

One of the stations along the way…

Continuing east…a friend assures me that’s Mt. Baldy in the distance.

Upland station.
