I’ve Been to Portland’s Vegan Strip Club and the Food Is Pretty Good

Outside of Casa Diablo, Portland’s vegan strip club.

Until yesterday, the veggie burger at Casa Diablo was called the “Diablo Burger,” but Newark Mayor Cory Booker changed that. After Booker was caught flirting with Lynsie Lee, a resident stripper at the now famous vegan strip club, the burger was renamed (at least temporarily) to the Booker Burger. A sign on the door says it comes with a side of Lynsie Lee thighs fries.

TMZ shared a photo of the burger special along with a rather uninspired performance of Lee dancing in an American flag bikini set. Below the photo they write, “we hear the vegan “Booker Burger” is delicious.”

Well we at Good Food have tasted it, and the burger is in fact close to delicious.

Evan Kleiman, Sherry Yard and I visited Casa Diablo two weeks ago on a roadtrip through the Pacific Northwest. We had spent the entire afternoon eating. We went to Bakeshop, Tabor Bread, Salt & Straw, Le Pigeon and Sunshine Tavern before we ended up at Casa Diablo. Needless to say, we weren’t particularly hungry, but owner Johnny Diablo insisted that we order the Diablo Burger (aka the Booker Burger) and despite being over caloric capacity, we ate it. Dare I say…we enjoyed it? Evan commented on the mustard and the fresh tomato while Sherry noticed a hint of citrus in the middle. Personally, I thought it tasted like a McDonald’s hamburger. We all left wondering what exactly they put in their secret sauce.
