A Stellar Summer at the Box Office, but Only for Two Studios

2015 has been a great summer at the movies...if you're Universal or Disney. For everyone else, it's rough out there.

Disney and Universal are basking in the glow of great box office numbers this summer, but other studios have not come close to sharing the same level of success. Jurassic World has been the biggest winner, followed by Disney and Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron. Universal picked Colin Trevorrow to direct Jurassic World after he had only done one other small indie film. Fox tried to do the same with director Josh Trank, but Fantastic Four turned out to be a disaster. Both directors have connections to future films...or one of them still does, anyway. Trevorrow will direct Star Wars Episode 9. Trank has been dropped from a standalone Star Wars project.
