Big Changes at Sony

Hosted by

Kim and John discuss the big announcement from Sony Entertainment that they plan to enact major cost-cutting changes that could have drastic effect on their film business. It's yet another sign that the film business writ large needs to change its ways. Sony, the studio that's known to put out high brow fare like The Social Network and Moneyball -- and known to be more 'spendy' than other studios -- has suffered a $1.8 million loss this past quarter. This has much to do with three flops this summer: The Smurf sequel, White House Down and the Will Smith movie, After Earth. The news of the planned restructuring has the studio cutting its slate of yearly movie output and placing more emphasis on TV production where they've had success with shows like Breaking Bad and Blacklist
