'Duck Dynasty' Debacle

Hosted by

Kim and John are joined by Michael Schneider, LA Bureau Chief of TV Guide Magazine and host of KCRW's TV podcast The Spin-off, to discuss A&E's Duck Dynasty debacle. Phil Robertson, one of the primary stars of that docu-comedy about a family's duck call empire, recently made homophobic remarks in a GQ article and has been suspended from the show by A&E. Many conservative critics -- including Sarah Palin and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal -- have hopped into the debate accusing the cable network of infringing on Robertson's freedom of speech. Calls to boycott the network have followed. Meanwhile, this show is a huge hit for A&E -- it often gets up to 14 million viewers -- so alienating the cast or its fans puts them in a corner.
