Familial interaction is the common thread in writer/director Kenneth Lonergan's films, and his newest Manchester by the Sea is no exception. Casey Affleck stars as "Lee," a socially closed off man who is forced to engage against his will with those closest to him – his family.
Lonergan takes the opportunity to explore silence in the film. He talks about highlighting the awkwardness and often pain that accompanies the human experience.
