Director Ralph Ziman’s career has taken him from documentary (Hearts and Minds) to music videos (Faith No More) to feature film (The Zookeeper). His South African film noir, Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema, is the brave grim world his hero wants to create.
Ziman talks about filming guerilla-style in the streets of Johannesburg, casting his film, music as part of the South African fabric of life, being sold a pirated copy of his own film in Johannesburg, reaction to Jerusalema from political and religious groups, mythology and folklore in the film, incorporating the post-Apartheid ongoing struggle, being the first film of the Zuma generation.
