Palmeiro a Neanderthal

Like a lot of people, fans and Major League Baseball players and Congress men and women, I was 100% taken in by Rafael Palmeiro this past March 17. In a Congressional hearing on steroid use in baseball that day, several greats of the game, dressed in their finest navy blue pin-striped suits, told their stories. Jose Canseco reiterated some of what he had detailed in his new book JUICED-- that he was a user, that many major Leaguers were users, and that he had personally injected sluggers Mark McGwire and Rafael Palmeiro with illegal substances. Mark McGwire was there that day in March and he basically pleaded the 5th. McGwire made no admissions to using steroids. Nor did he declare any denials. And his silence was heard loud and clear. Rafael Palmeiro, on the other hand, pronounced a most dramatic denial. With a certain Latin emotional intensity, jaw set and eyes unblinking, he deliberately delivered his prideful words: -I have never used steroids. Period. I don-t know how to say it any more clearly than that. Never.-...
