When I arrived at work the morning of their session, I saw a platinum blonde man in a purple and white striped shirt, who appeared not to be wearing any pants, hanging out in the hallway. This was Ariel Pink.
We’ve taken to describing his work as “surrealistic pop” because there are some incredibly catchy moments, but also some wildly weird ones. The first two songs of the set are arguably his most accessible – the swoon-worthy “Only in My Dreams” and the title track “Mature Themes”.
Mature themes were also a matter of discussion during the interview with Ariel proclaiming that we are all perverts and just trying to suppress it. He clearly embraces his individual freedom and channels it into his work.
