The Avett Brothers have been getting airplay on KCRW since the Fall ’09 release of the Rick Rubin produced I and Love and You, and this latest release has certainly helped to find the boys a new audience. Meanwhile, we’ve had a ton of amazing bands pass through KCRW lately and I’m not sure if my fellow co-workers knew what to expect. Seeing the Avett Brothers perform live is certainly something to behold. If you have the chance, don’t miss it. (They will be at Nokia here in LA tomorrow night.)

The North Carolina brothers spoke a little bit to the experience of recording with Rick Rubin, and having been a fan since early on in their discography, it was particularly intriguing for me to hear about working at his pace, slowing some things down for the studio versus the energy they’ve previously taken into recording, resulting in a different aesthetic to their 6th studio album. I also heard Scott tell Ariana that he was really excited for more material.

Check out today’s live session on KCRW.com! I got to watch several co-workers fall in love with the band during today’s performance. Don’t miss RR doing a little go-go dancing in the background of this YouTube clip! (yeah…..!!)

Being from North Carolina myself, I personally have not been more thrilled for any band to pass through here since my hire! Huge thanks to Ariana & Jason for helping me get the opportunity to shake hands and swap words with the boys about common friends. Believe me, this is my new favorite Facebook profile pic.
