Bibio has announced a forthcoming EP titled Sleep On The Wing, and also shared the first sounds via the gentle and melodic title track. It follows his 2019 full-length album Ribbons, and explores similar sonic territory, with traditional folk and atmospheric soundscapes.

KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez says, “You truly never know what you will get with each Bibio release. Sometimes it’s lo-fi Laurel Canyon-esque vibes and other times it sounds like he's scoring the perfect soundtrack to help with your 405 traffic epiphanies.”

With “Sleep On The Wing,” it doubles as both.

The guitar-driven track floats along with a pastoral and earthy sound. It’s contemplative and lovely. Bibio explains the inspiration behind the single: “The idea of being in the wake of a loss, and with hope, continuing the life of someone who has passed, through allowing oneself to be inspired by what they did during their lifetime and what they left behind, whether it’s the things they said, the knowledge they shared or the things they made. The other aspect to the song is perhaps more direct, and talks of escaping the city to find peace in the countryside, but the title is more a celebration of dreaming and the liberating power of imagination, not necessarily a physical escape.”

Sleep On The Wing EP arrives June 12th on Warp Records and according to a press release — it's largely an instrumental collection recorded in Bibio’s home studio in the UK midlands countryside.

Perfectly peaceful sounds for trying times. Watch the animated video below.
