From Anne Litt:

“I can’t tell you how proud I am to be part of the second installment of the KCRW Soundclash series.  Ozomatli is a band I’ve listened to since they started playing back around the mid-90’s.  I remember the first time I ever saw them in a small club in Hollywood only a few years after I moved here.  The moment they marched through the audience to the stage, playing, singing, cheering, I knew they were an incredibly special force to be reckoned with.  I’ve listened to them and watched them perform ever since.

When Jason Bentley gave me the opportunity to do my first ever remix, my first feeling was intimidation.  How could I ever do justice to the songwriting and heritage of this band?  But then excitement and music set in.  I met my co-producer, Mark Kilian, thanks to KCRW producer Gemma Dempsey, and we immediately started working.  Check out Mark’s credits and website here.  He composed the music for the 2006 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language film, “Tsotsi.”

The idea was to bring the a capella vocal ensemble Sonos – who have been a favorite of ours at KCRW – into the studio to do a version of the vocals.  The message of the song was so tender that we wanted to add the harmonies and feel of the 6 part male/female group.  We added percussionist, Julio Moreno, and the collaboration was in full effect.

This remix is my love letter to Ozomatli.”
