DJ Travis Holcombe fills in for Jason Bentley on MBE, I find myself downloading a track or two I hear on the show. Travis is a seeker and he really finds some gems. Luckily a lot of them are readily available for your listening (and downloading) pleasure on the internet!
This morning it was Daisy O’Dell’s version of the classic “These Days” by Nico.
It was originally written by Jackson Browne, but Nico’s version was used in a key moment in Wes Anderson’s “The Royal Tenenbaums”, which really gave it a new life. Nico’s version is quite melancholic, delivering world weary lyrics in her low register with just a dash of her German accent, so it’s interesting to hear what Daisy accomplished putting some beats and swells of sound behind it. She changes the tone entirely and I love it.
