Eli Mardock: Artist You Should Know

Written by

I love this DIY world where musicians don’t necessarily need to be signed to a traditional record label to get their music out there.

That being said, it is true that self-released projects often take longer to make their way to us.  This is the case for an EP that I’ve been listening to a great deal lately, “NE Sorrow Is Born” from Lincoln, Nebraska musician Eli Mardock (former frontman of Eagle Seagull).

Although this CD didn’t cross my desk until December, my research indicates that it first became available last July.  I’m just glad that it did eventually show up, as it is the source of one of my current favorite songs, “Cut Me Open.”

This is one of those tracks that, upon first listen, really made me stop everything else I was doing and give it my undivided attention.  Check it out:

As a reminder to those of you who are on the DIY tip, KCRW’s Malcolm submission system is an easy way to submit your songs to us, even if you haven’t pressed a CD.  Get all the details at http://malcolm.kcrw.com.
