Exclusive Music from KCRW’s Masquerade Talent!

Written by

KCRW’s Halloween benefit event Masquerade, now in its fourth year, is one of the best parties of the year in Los Angeles. I know I may be biased, but where else can you find your favorite KCRW DJs, live bands, food trucks, photo booths, vaudeville circus troupe Lucent Dossier all under one roof – and that roof being the historic Park Plaza!

It all goes down on Saturday, October 27 and we’re happy to announce the artists that will be joining us and offer up some exclusive music below!

Z-Trip, Mexican Institute of Sound, Hanni El Khatib, and Dustbowl Revival have been added to the lineup and you better buy your tickets here before they sell out!

Z-Trip

Z-Trip is considered one of the best live performance DJs in history. When he performed on Morning Becomes Eclectic in 2009 we were all watching him in stunned silence as he mixed and mashed every genre imaginable. He is a turntable wizard and we’re making his MBE live session available as a free download right here.

Mexican Institute of Sound

Camilo Lara
has turned Mexican Institute of Sound from a one-man band into a full ensemble merging electronica beats with traditional Mexican folk styles (norteño, mariachi, cumbia) for a fun and funky mix. Below is a previously unreleased remix of his song “Es-Toy” by Brooklyn DJ/producer Atropolis (Cumba Mela / Dutty Artz). (LA Weekly will debut a video for the track tomorrow). Download it right here!

Hanni El-Khatib

Hanni El-Khatib’s live performances are raw, bluesy and soulful. This will be a welcome homecoming for the LA artist who has been touring constantly and taking trips to Nashville to work on his new record with Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. He’s promising a few special songs for the occasion – perhaps a hint at his new material?? In the meantime, enjoy some alternate versions of songs from his debut album.

“Heartbreak Hotel”:

And “Dead Wrong“:

The Dustbowl Revival

The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice-based roots collective that will be roaming the halls prompting swamp gospel sing-a-longs and delighting revelers with New Orleans-style swing.  They’ve been in the studio working on new material and are giving us the first glimpse of “Josephine”, soulful story song with a Halloween twist! It will be on their new album out in January.

Bonus: Stream the track “Western Passage” off their 2011 EP “Holy Ghost Station”.

Masquerade 2012! Woohoo!
