Four Songs You Should Listen to Right Now

Booka Shade – “Love Inc”

Berlin-based beatmaking duo Booka Shade has a new album called “Eve” out this week. Jason Bentley says it is “atmospheric and cinematic”, a perfect nighttime album. They’ve been making music together for 25 years and continue to push forward. “Love Inc” is a great example.

Warpaint –“Love is to Die”

One of my favorite LA bands is the all-female quartet Warpaint and I’ve been anxiously anticipating new tunes from these ladies.

They tend toward dark, hypnotic post-punk sounds and, for their self-titled sophomore release, they wrote and recorded in Joshua Tree.

UK producer Flood (who most recently mixed the new Depeche Mode album, but is most famous for his work with U2 among MANY others) recorded and mixed the album, aside from two songs that were mixed by Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. Take a listen to the first single.

Larry Gus – “The Eternal and the Ephemeral”

Multi-instrumentalist and producer Larry Gus calls DFA records (Holy Ghost!, LCD Soundsystem) his home, which gives you a hint of what to expect.

I was introduced to the Greek artist (who now lives in Italy) via Dj Mario Cotto, who is a huge fan. The track “The Eternal and the Ephemeral”, off his new full length “Years Not Living” is EXACTLY what it sounds like.

A blissful piece of electro peppered with a interesting mix of horns and other sounds. I heard it on Garth Trinidad’s show last night and was completely captivated. Love it.

Josh Tillman — “Car Chase Theme”

While we await a new full length for Father John Misty, the man behind the moniker – Josh Tillman – has put together the film score for “The History of Caves”, the directorial debut of his wife Emma Elizabeth Tillman, who he married in Big Sur a few months ago.

This track is brooding and minimal, perhaps a hint of what’s to come on FJM’s sophomore release, which he toldRolling Stone will be “a little more intense” with less of a “honky-tonk presence”.
