No matter what else happens in 2015, Kendrick Lamar‘s latest album, “To Pimp A Butterfly“, has cemented its place on my end-of-year top 10 list.
It’s an record so weighty and complex in its ambition and execution that it makes most other albums released this year look D-League in comparison.
That’s on one level.
On another level, it’s also just a really fun album to listen to. So there’s that.
There’s a ton of unofficial remixes from “To Pimp A Butterfly“ floating around Soundcloud already, but two of my favorite versions are by a couple of my favorite remixers, DJ Platurn and Cousin Cole.
As your musical sherpa, I would advise you to grab both of these remixes while they’re still up 😉
The Derevolutions – “Dangerous Lies”
As Biz Markie says, “It’s spring again…” which means perfect weather in Southern California for the foreseeable future, and a perfectperfect weather soundtrack by The Derevolutions.
Calling it “catchy” would be an understatement. The Derevolutions make addicting music.
Rudi Zygadlo – “Slow Carz”
I don’t know much about Rudi Zygadlo.
A little Google sleuthing tells me that he’s from Glasgow and he’s a vocalist/multi-instrumentalist who’s put out a couple of albums on the Planet Mu label that I have apparently slept on.
History aside, his latest single for Mad Decent‘s Jeffree’s sublabel is incredible.
Rudi Zygadlo, I see you. You are now squarely on my radar.
**BONUS** Kenny Loggins – “This Is It” (Matthias Zimmermann Remix)
Congrats and thank you for making it to the end of this blog post (thumbs up emoji)!
As your reward, here’s a killer leftfield club remix of Kenny Loggins‘ “This Is It” by Matthias Zimmermann that I’ve been playing on my show recently.
Somewhere in Japan, my Aunt Meiko, who was the biggest Kenny Loggins fangirl in the world in the 80’s, is either horrified by this remix or is completely stoked that I am bringing Kenny back to the airwaves in 2015.
Either way, you’re welcome 🙂
