The first time Jason Bentley played Jessica Lea Mayfield on Morning Becomes Eclectic, I knew she was more than just another singer songwriter. I did one of my “run down to the studio and find out who this is immediately” jogs down the hall and then Jason told me that The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach produced her new record. Now I was REALLY intrigued.

Stream “Our Hearts Are Wrong”:

I asked Jason to share his initial thoughts on this new artist:

“I love the quality of Jessica Lea Mayfield‘s voice and her lyrics, but another thing that grabbed my attention straight away was Dan Auerbach’s bluesy-rock distortion hovering in the background. It’s not overbearing but a pleasing layer of atmosphere that adds to an altogether compelling sound.”

Jessica’s Nonesuch Records debut “Tell Me” will be released February 8, 2011.
