KCRW Presents: Stacked slate of February shows

Written by

KCRW’s excited to share our stacked list of Presents shows for February, full of up and coming artists and Grammy-nominated heavy-hitters.

We’ve teamed up with Art Don’t Sleep to co-present the Jazz Is Dead: Black History Month series, which features some of jazz’s greatest living musicians performing alongside undiscovered acts. Most of the series takes place at the Lodge Room in Highland Park, with the exception of the show featuring Digable Planets, which immediately sold out two show times on Sunday, February 16, so they added a third at the show at the Regent, Monday, February 17 (tickets still available).

Metronomy will be back in Southern California with shows supporting their latest release, Metronomy Forever (included on Novena Carmel’s Best Of 2019 Album list). Their February 23rd show at Pappy & Harriet’s is sold out but we’ll have some ticket giveaways coming in the days leading up to the show.

FINALLY, some new music is out from bass aficionado, Thundercat. “Black Qualls” features alt-R&B artist, Steve Lacy, and g-funk pioneer, Steve Arrington, and is the first taste from Thundercat’s upcoming release It Is What It Is, out April 3rd on Brainfeeder. The album also includes Childish Gambino, Ty Dolla $ign, Kamasi Washington, BadBadNotGood, Flying Lotus, and more! No doubt, Thundercat will be playing tracks from the new album at his show at the Wiltern on Saturday, March 7.

Here is your two-week round up of what’s to come from KCRW Presents:

Saturday, February 1:  Dermot Kennedy at the Majestic Ventura Theater
Sunday, February 2:  Jazz Is Dead: Black History Month with Vibes From The TRIBE  w/ Phil Ranelin & Wendell Harrison w/ The Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra at the Lodge Room
