Latin artists have always been a core of KCRW’s eclectic programming and this week is a great chance to highlight a few of our favorites – including the blast of sunshine that is El Guincho — as we head to New York City for the annual Latin Alternative Music Conference.

KCRW DJ Raul Campos will be hosting the festivities, including a free show in Central Park with Barcelona experimentalist El Guincho. The Central Park Summerstage show takes place TODAY Wednesday, July 7 at 7pm with Chilean hip hop artist Ana Tijoux and Tijuana’s electronica stars Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich+Fussible also on the bill.

El Guincho is the alias of Spanish musician Pablo Díaz-Reixa and his music is sunny and infectious. Fans of Animal Collective will definitely enjoy his hypnotic swirl of musical styles (Tropicalia, Afrobeat, Dub) and samples. I can picture listening to “Palmitos Park” outside in a crowded park on a lovely NYC evening and I’m jealous I can’t be there myself!

At least we can enjoy the track, off his latest album “Alegranza,” from here.
